Gre words and their usages

You should start your vocabulary words by studying the most frequent words on the GRE. I have compiled of these tested words on the GRE and their usages.

1. Abaft (adj) : on or toward the rear of the ship.
Ex: The passengers moved abaft of the ship so as to escape the fire in the front of the ship.

2. abandon (v) : to give something up
Ex: After falling for several years, he abandoned his dreams of starting a bakery business.

3. abdicate(v) : to reject, renounce
Ex: He had a right of claim on the property, but he was forced to abdicate.

4. abnegation(n) : renunciation, self sacrifice
Ex: It was a time of austerity and abnegation

5. abrogate (v): to cancel by authority
Ex: The judge would not abrogate the law.
